One of the premier beach resorts of Tunisia, Hammamet offers fine beaches by the azure blue water of the Mediterranean Sea ideal for sunbathing and water sports. In addition, Hammamet is rich in history and culture with a medieval medina, whitewashed houses and colorful souqs. Hammamet has around 10 km of lovely beaches with fine sand. The Hammamet beaches are great for sunbathing and water sports such as waterskiing and diving in Hammamet. The beaches are also characterized by lovely colorful fishing boats. In the Flipper Aquapark in Hammamet there are exciting slides for the children.

The walled old town, medina from the 15th century is one of the dominant characteristics of Hammamet. You can even walk along the wall, from where there are beautiful views over the Mediterranean Sea. The medieval Kasbah was built to protect the medina. In the colorful Souq of Hammamet in the old town you can find Tunisian art and craft and practice your bargaining skills.

Entertainment & culture. After day on the beach or shopping in Hammamet you might need some relaxation in the traditional bathhouses of Hammamet. There are also a few courses where you can play golf in Hammamet. The International Culture Centre of Hammamet is one of the landmarks of the town and there is also a Greek-style amphitheatre on the grounds of the centre. The International Cultural Festival of Hammamet is held every year on the grounds of the Centre. During the festival there are many kinds of live performances and Arab music to enjoy. There is also an art exhibition in the International Culture Centre.

Hammamet is located in Cap Bon Peninsula on the northern coast of Tunisia, around 64 km from Tunis. Like the rest of the Tunisian coast, Hammamet enjoys a pleasant Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers with plenty of sunshine and mild, wet winters. Summer from June to September is the high season for tourism in Hammamet.

Accommodation & services. There are plenty of beach resorts and other hotels in Hammamet, many of them surrounded by green gardens. In the restaurants in Hammamet you can taste both local Tunisian cuisine, such as couscous, as well as international and fast food. There is a relatively quiet nightlife in Hammamet, but you can find some bars and discos at the hotels and in the town. English is understood by those locals working in tourism industry, but learning some phrases in French or Arabic can be useful.

Traveling to Hammamet is easiest by taking a flight to Carthage International Airport or Monastir International Airport. There are good bus and train connections to Hammamet from both Tunis and Sousse.

Public transportation in Hammamet is handled by minibuses, which are very affordable. Taxis are also widely available and they are quite cheap as well. However, some bargaining is often expected if using taxis. In Hammamet almost everything can be accessed by walking. Car rental in Hammamet is also available if you’d like to visit other destinations in Tunisia, such as Carthage, Kairouan, Sousse or Tunis.

Safety. Hammamet can be regarded a safe destination. As petty theft and pick-pocketing does occur, it is advisable to keep an eye on your belongings. As Hammamet is a Muslim town, it is wise to dress conservatively while outside the beach.
