Summers in NYC are hot, especially in July and August, sometimes to an excessive extent. Winters in New York on the other hand are cool, and freezing temperatures are often met between December and February, which is also the period when New York meets most of its snowfall. However, any time is basically good to visit New York, as there are so many things to do and enjoy regardless of weather.
How to get there. Flights to New York are available from most countries of the world, in addition to which the city can be reached by road or train from elsewhere in the US East coast, or with the old fashioned style, by sea from Europe. There is an efficient public transport system in NYC for moving around in the city, consisting of buses, subways and yellow taxis, in addition to which also ferries are used for transportation in New York City. Easing the task of finding your way, Manhattan’s streets are numbered, with all horizontal roads called streets and vertical ones avenues. Therefore, you will probably find your way around even with rental cars in New York, which due to the heavy traffic are, however, not a very popular choice.
As for tourist services, all doors are open in New York City. You can find a wide variety of hotels in New York, as well as pretty much everything you are prepared to hope for restaurants in New York. Although New York is a big city with big city problems such as crime, most of the crimes occur in few city areas which are easy to avoid. Overall, New York City is much safer than most visitors think, especially if you avoid traveling after dark and stay away from places such as Hunts Point in Bronx and East New York in Brooklyn. Central Park should also be avoided after dark.
