Safe but expensive: Practical information for staying in Switzerland

Weather in Switzerland is changeable, with warm summers and cold winters. Summertime (June-August) temperatures in Switzerland are most often quite warm, but during the coldest months of the winter (December-February) mercury usually drops to near zero temperatures. As Switzerland is a mountainous country, local weather is dependent on altitude, and can change rapidly.

How to get there. Located in the heart of Central Europe, Switzerland is an easily reachable destination with several efficient airports and good train and bus connections to many European countries. Roads in Switzerland are excellent, and traffic is quite fluent. However, you should know that there are road tolls for driving on a Swiss motorway, and if your car does not have a motorway tax paid sticker, you will be charged heavily for driving even a short distance on a Swiss motorway.

A popular tourist destination and land of well-maintained tourist services, Switzerland hosts excellent hotels and restaurants suitable to many tastes. Talking of Switzerland and services, there is however one disadvantage which is the high prices. In wealthy Switzerland most things are expensive, and the rest only slightly less expensive. Although most of the country (in spite of the French-speaking western parts) speaks German, English is a widely understood language in Switzerland. Adding the pleasure of staying in Switzerland, this alpine country is a very safe destination, where the biggest threat is probably running out of your money.
