Museums in Leiden



Leiden is an important museum city with many interesting and famous museums. Three of the national museums in the Netherlands are located in Leiden. They are the National Museum of Antiquities, the National Museum of Ethnology and the Dutch National Museum of the History of Science and Medicine. Other museums in Leiden include the Naturalis, which is one of the largest natural history museums in the world, the windmill museum of Molen de Valk, the municipal museum of De Lakenhal, and the botanical garden of Hortus Botanicus. Leiden’s museums are located within a short walking distance from the central train station, and can be visited for free if you have purchased a 1-year museum card (museumjaarkaart).
