Lausanne is located on the shores of the beautiful Lake Geneva near Jura Mountains. The city provides breathtaking views over the lake and the Alps. Lausanne is the famous home of the International Olympic Committee and there are two universities in the city. In the beautiful nOld Town you can admire many impressive historical buildings, including the Gothic cathedral. Climbing up to the Cathedral Tower is a rewarding experience, as the cathedral provides breathtaking views over the area. There are many excellent museums in Lausanne, including Olympic Museum, Elysée Museum, Lausanne Historical Museum and Collection de l'Art Bru. Visit also the Palais de Rumine which houses several fine museums.

Culture & entertainment. Lausanne is a busy cultural town with many theatres and opera. The city is home to famous orchestras, the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and the Ensemble Vocal de Lausanne, and there are many festivals and concerts in Lausanne throughout the year. Lausanne has changeable weather with warm summers and cold winters. In the summertime from June to August temperatures are most often around 20˚C, but during the coldest months of the winter from December to February mercury usually drops to near zero temperatures. Local transport. Lausanne has an efficient public transportation system with buses, metros, trains and trolleybuses. The majority of the attractions in Lausanne can be easily explored on foot and most parts of the Old Town are car-free. However, there are large differences in elevation in Lausanne. Bike and car rental in Lausanne are widely available.
