Kayaking and rafting in Finnish Lapland

Land of wilderness highlands and river streams, Laplands offers enjoyable surroundings for kayaking. The most popular destination is the wide and fascinating Inari Lake, which is found north from the Arctic Circle, near the Russian border. Covering more than 1000 square kilometers, Lake Inari is the third largest lake in Finland. There are more than 3000 small islands dotting the lake, including ones with historical sacrifice places of the Sami people. The lake is a wilderness area, which means services are restricted to a few camping places and some wilderness huts. However, landscapes around the lake are magnificent.
In addition to Lake Inari, there are also other interesting destinations for paddling in Lapland. Small forest lakes and wild river streams of the area attract mainly experienced paddlers, but also some easy routes are available, for example in the Yllas area. The Tornio river flowing at the border of Sweden, all the way through Lapland, attracts experience white water paddlers.
