Food and Restaurants in Gangwon

There are plenty of restaurants in Gangwon Province, located in all tourist areas, and especially in the capital Chuncheon that is famous for its chicken dishes. Apart from Korean and Japanese cuisine, international choices are not that wide, though. The Korean cuisine is an important part of the local culture, and has taken influences from both China and Japan. Korean food is spicy, tasty and low in fat. Rice and soups are the main ingredients, and raw fish, barbecued beef, noodles, seaweed, dumplings and vegetables are also staple dishes. The spicy kimchi sauce and soybean or chili paste are offered with most meals. Gangwon Province is famous in Korea for its salt tofu called sundubu, as well as fresh chobap, Korean version of sushi. Other seafood dishes are also widely available in Gangwon.
