Etosha National Park is an excellent destination for African wildlife safaris in Namibia. The park is located around the large Etosha Salt Pan and the wide park area consists mainly of savanna grassland, bushland and woodland. The salt pan is dry most of the year, but fills with water during the summer months. The springs and water holes in the park attract lots of wildlife from the surrounding dry regions. Etosha National Park is inhabited by approximately 100 large mammal species, such as elephants, lions, zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, hyenas, leopards and cheetahs among others. At the waterholes in the park you can watch animals very close when come down to drink. Approximately 340 species of birds can also be admired in Etosha National park.

Safari destination. Established already in 1907, Etosha National Park is the second-largest national park and one of the most popular tourism attractions in Namibia. It has several accommodation choices and guided tours available. All-inclusive safaris in Etosha National Park with fullboard camp accommodation and game drives are the main way to tour in Etosha region, but you can visit the area also with your own vehicle.

Etosha National park is located approximately 400 kilometers north of the Namibian capital Windhoek in Northern Namibia. The park area is approximately 22,300 sq km and located at 1,000 meters above sea level. The park has a very hot and dry climate.

The air is often very dusty. Etosha National Park is open year-round, but the best time to visit Etosha for wildlife watching is from August to September.

Traveling to Etosha National Park is easiest by bus, private car or safari tour. Many tour operators in the Namibian capital Windhoek and in Swakopmund organize safaris in Etosha National Park. As walking in the park area is not permitted, the only way for getting around is by car. There is no car rental in Etosha National Park but you can rent a car elsewhere in Namibia to visit the park.

Accommodation & services. Etosha National Park has good facilities for visitors. Accommodation in Etosha National Park is organized in the three rest camps which have shops and restaurants in Etosha National Park. Each camp has a waterhole where you can admire wild animals after sunset. There is no actual nightlife in Etosha National Park, except the bars in the rest camps.

Safety. What comes to the security situation in Etosha National Park, you have to watch out for potentially dangerous wild animals. The rest camps are closed after sunset and moving around in the park area is not permitted after sunset.
