Stretching for kilometers in the middle of the Swiss Alps along Landwasser River Valley, Davos is an eye-catching alpine village. The village might be small, but if you come here on a snowy winter day, you will find it full of winter-loving outdoor people testing the excellent facilities of winter sports in Davos.

The mountains rising around Davos host ski slopes and lifts covering the mountainside at all altitudes between 1,120 and 2,850 m (3,675 to 9,350 ft). Besides downhill skiing, also cross-country skiing and snowboarding are popular sports in Davos.

Summer activities. Famous mainly for its wintertime activities, as well as for hosting the World Economic Forum each January, Davos is a magnetic place also during the summer. The alpine pastures and forests around the city are good places for trekking in Davos, and if you want to try another popular alpine sport, also mountain biking in Davos is enjoyable, with cable cars lifting you up the mountain.

Cultural attractions. For a day off the slopes, Davos offers Kirchner Museum with expressionist paintings and Winter Sports Museum with interesting examples of the history of winter sports equipment. As for nightlife and shopping in Davos, it is a good place to be if you are sportive and love after-ski parties. For a special experience, visit the highest brewery of Europe, Monstein, or the alpine botanical gardens of Schatzalp.

Practical information for your trip to Davos

Davos is located in the eastern part of Switzerland, in a scenic valley surrounded by the Swiss Alps. For flights and travelling to Davos, the nearest international airport is located in Zurich, which is two hours away from Davos by train or bus. The village area is small and cars are quite useless unless you want to see the mountain roads and sights around the village. Car rental in Davos is a good solution for this purpose.

Weather. Alpine city of high altitude, Davos is familiar with changeable weather. Average monthly high temperatures in Davos rise above 20°C in the summer, but stay close to 0°C at wintertime. If you go up the mountains, temperatures can be much lower and sudden changes in weather are common. For winter sports, visit Davos between December and March, and for summer activities, come between June and September. Note, however, that Davos hosts the annual World Economic Forum meeting at the end of January, when accommodation may get scarce.

Visitor services. One of the most popular ski resorts in Switzerland, Davos has high quality tourist services available. There are alpine hotels in Davos, and apartments are offered for longer stays. Restaurants in Davos are waiting for the hungry visitor with Swiss specialties made of cheese and chocolate, and after dinner, lively nightlife in Davos is about to begin. Besides ski accidents and occasional avalanches, Davos is a perfectly safe travel destination. But as Switzerland is one of the most expensive countries on earth, be prepared with a thick wallet.
