Birdwatching in Seychelles

Birdwatching in Seychelles is excellent, and although the number of bird species in the islands is not big, there are plenty of endemic species here that you cannot see in anywhere else. As the birds in the Seychelles are also relatively easy to spot, birdwatching has become popular on the islands. The bigger granitic islands of Mahé, Praslin, La Digue, Silhouette and Fregate all have endemic species of forest birds, and there are also many large seabird colonies on the smaller islands of Aride, Bird Island, Cosmoledo, Cousin and Cousine. The tiny Cousin Island is a world-renowned protected reserve and a birding site that is home to more than 300 000 birds, including both seabirds and local native species. Aldabra atoll also has plenty of interesting bird species, but it is much harder to travel to.
