The city enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate with hot and dry summers and mild winters with minimal rainfall. There are regular boat connections to Algiers from some European cities like Marseille, Nice and Naples. Public transport in Algiers is offered by buses, trams and local trains, and a metro network is being built. Algiers has good road connections to many Algerian cities and there are many agencies offering car rental in Algiers.
Accommodation & dining. The majority of the fine restaurants in Algiers and hotels in Algiers are located around the lively main street, Didouche Mourade. Some nightlife options also exist in this Islamic city.
Safety. Algiers is not among the most popular or safest cities in the world. As there has been several serious bomb attacks recently, always check the security situation before traveling to Algiers. Violent crimes are not rare in Algiers, either, so visitors are advised to keep an eye on their belongings and not to travel alone after dark. Earthquakes are common in Algeria.
